Start Point: Speaking to TzHaar-Mej-Ak in the TzHaar City plaza.
Location:
TzHaar Chat Log:
TzHaar-Mej-Ak - Welcome, Yt'Haar. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - It is good that you have returned. We require your assistance. Our race is dying. No egg has hated as TzHaar since you and Ga'al-Xox journeyed to the Kiln. Only Ga'al. TzHaar-Mej-Ak - TzHaar live a long time, but all die and become Tokkul. Now each TzHaar's egg is born as Ga'al, without TzHaar memories, without TzHaar strength. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - We must take action. We must send more Ga'al to the Kiln. As you cleared the way, it should be safe for them now. TzHaar-Mej-Ak - We want you to lead the expedition into the Elder Kiln, and resurrect greatest TzHaar champions. Will you aid us?
Agree to take on Quest!
TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Excellent. First, we must choose which of our fallen legends shall live on within the body of a Ga'al. TzHaar-Mej-Ak - TzHaar-Mej-Gek is the obvious choice. He was the greatest of our caste, and much knowledge of our ancient magic was lost in his passing. TzHaar-Mej-Ak - I also nominate Tzhaar-Ket-Teg, and the great hunter, Tzhaar-Xil-Kal. TzHaar-Mej-Ak - Agreed. Their endurance in the Fight Pit was legendary, and since their return to stone, neither caste has equaled their technique
TzHaar-Mej-Jeh gives you a strange pulsing orb of obsidian.
TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Yt'Haar, this communication orb will help you locate the Tokkul of our great champions, Recover their Tokkul by any means necessary, and bring it to us. TzHaar-Mej-Ak - During your search of the city, round up three Ga'al and send them to this plaza. They shall have the honour of bearing the memories of our lost champions. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Finally, the Ga'al shall have value and purpose.
TzHaar Chat Log:
TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Excellent. You can hear me. I enchanted the orb with divination magic. We can use it to keep in contact. The spell's range is limited. You will not be able to contact me beyond the city bounds. Within the orb is a small fragment of each of the missing champions. It is all we have been able to find. The orb will seek out the rest of the Tokkul, reacting as you draw closer. Which champion's Tokkul do you wish to seek first?
>1. Tokkul of TzHaar-Mej-Gek. 2. Tokkul of TzHaar-Ket-Teg. 3. Tokkul of TzHaar-Xil-Kal. 4. Nearest Ga'al.
The orb feels warm. It pulls to the north and strongly to the east.
Ga'al in another egg:
TzHaar-Mej-Het - The egg hatches. I hope this one will... Another Ga'al! Throw it in the Fight Pit with the others. I bombarded TzHaar-Xil-Ryal's egg with fire spells to battle the child wind... I stood vigil. I nurtured his egg. Now all the memories that he carried through the centuries will die with him.
TzHaar-Mej-Het Chat Log:
TzHaar-Mej-Het - TzHaar-Mej-Het's joints are freezing. TzHaar City not usually so cold. A JalYt. Your kind do not often stray near our birthing pools. Most fight in pit, Cave , or kiln. If you are here to steal our eggs, turn back or perish.
1. Cold? You're standing next to a pool of lava! 2. I'm not here to steal anything 3. Your eggs are of no value to me 4. I require Tokkul.
TzHaar-Mej-Het - Bank is west of plaza... User: No, no. I don't want just any Tokkul. I seek the Tokkul of TzHaar-Mej-Gek. TzHaar-Mej-Het - TzHaar-Mej-Het helped a JalYt mage - charged his staff. JalYt gave Tokkul. Tzhaar-Mej-Het does not know why.
As TzHaar-Mej-Het holds out the Tokkul, your orb hums and throbs.
1. That's the Tokkul I'm looking for! 2. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh's orb seems to recognize th Tokkul. 3. That's the Tokkul of TzHaar-Mej-Gek. Give it to me.
TzHaar-Mej-Het - Why do you want Tokkul? Tokkul is body of TzHaar ancestor. Never mind. Take TzHaar-Mej-Het must tend to eggs. Must fight cold. More dead eggs in every batch.
TzHaar-Mej-Het gives you the Tokkul of TzHaar-Mej-Gek. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Well Done. You found the Tokkul of TzHaar-Mej-Gek. Bring it to use in the plaza when you are ready.
Ket-Teg and Xil-Kal:
You chip 5 fragments of Tokkul from the statue. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Well done, but Tokkul must be whole. Melt fragments and reforge champion's Tokkul in the lava furnace is south-east plaza.
You chip 5 fragments of Tokkul from the statue. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - You must the fragments in a lava furnace. There is one in the south-east plaza.
You melt the fragments and feforge the Tokkul of Tzhaar-Ket-Teg. You melt the fragments and feforge the Tokkul of Tzhaar-Xil-Kal.
TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Excellent. The Tokkul is made whole. bring it to use in the plaza when you are ready.
Gai - send them all to plaza total 3:
I need you to go to the plaza, Ga'al. Ga'al - Nguh-guh?
1. Yes, the plaza. Quickly, please. 2. Go to the plaza. You'll be safe there. 3. You. Plaza. Now.
I need you to go to the plaza, Ga'al. Ga'al - Guh?
1. Yes, the plaza. Quickly, please. 2. Go to the plaza. You'll be safe there. 3. You. Plaza. Now.
I need you to go to the plaza, Ga'al. Ga'al - Yuh?
1. Yes, the plaza. Quickly, please. 2. Go to the plaza. You'll be safe there. 3. You. Plaza. Now.
Head back to plaza center and talk with TzHaar-Mej.
You give the TzHaar-Mej the Tokkul of Tzhaar-Xil-Kal. You give the TzHaar-Mej the Tokkul of TzHaar-Ket Teg.
TzHaar-Mej-Ak - It it cold in here, or is it just Tzhaar-Mej-Ak? Splendid! You have done well, Yt'Haar. We are ready to enter the Elder Kiln. We shall meet you at the entrance.
Chat Log:
ToKHaar-Hok - So, our wayward brethren have finally returned. TzHaar-Mej-Ak - You are... TokHaar-Hok? Ga'al-Xox spoke of you. You speak for the TokHaar? TokHaar-Hok - Yes. We have adopted a form convenient for communicating with non-TokHaar. Are you ready to join us in the sacred lava, as our masters intended? TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Join you? No. We wish you to fuse the Tokkul of our greatest champions with these Ga'al, as you did to Ga'al-Xox. TokHaar-Hok - Ah, yes. How is my little Ga'al? He lingers sometimes on the periphery between our kiln and your wretched city. He seems to... regret his transformation. It will not work, TzHaar. These Ga'al... are too weak. Your greatest champions shall return to the sacred lava and become TokHaar. But you may proceed, if you wish. TzHaar-Mej-Ak - I fear losing the Tokkul of our fallen champions. What do you think we should do, Yt'Haaar?
1. We have to take the risk. Reforge the Ga'al in the Kiln. 2. Ga'al-Xox survived. Hopefully these Ga'al will too. Proceed. >3. This is wrong. The TzHaar would sacrifice the Ga'al for your own needs. 4. I don't trust TokHaar-Hok. We should return to the city.
TzHaar-Mej-Ak - Ga'al are aberration - no place in TzHaar City. The Elder Kiln shall bestow valu upon Ga'al by bearing the memories of their ancestors.
TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Ga'al-Xox! What have you done? You have slain TzHaar-Mej-Ak on sacred ground! Ga'al-Xox - 'Sacred'? How dare you hide behind sanctimony... you who torture the innocent for your own selfish airms. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - We do this to save the TzHaar from extinction, Ga'al-Xox. The Tokkul of our ancestors shall- Ga'al-Xox - No Ga'al shall endure the suffering you forced upon me, as long as I am alive to protect them. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Pursue him, Yt'Haar. Use the communication orb to trak down Ga'al-Xox. You must recover our champion' Tokkul.
You will need to head over to this area next!

TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Ga'al-Xox no doubt sealed the gate to slow your progress. Do not let him get away!
TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Well done. The gate is open. Pursue Ga'al-Xox before he escapes with the Tokkul!
Shalf With valuable information:
Wait... do you see that shelf of reading orbs near the gate? They may yield valuable information. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Smooth obsidian spheres are arranged on the shelf. Symbols of the TzHaar language are carved into their surfaces. The script on these reading orbs is ancient. The elements have worn away much of the original text You have found an account of one of the first TzHaar to depart the Elder Kiln! According to the text, this tunnel is part of the original network they carved while seeking out a new home. The tunnel connects TzHaar City to something called the TzKot-Zo... a ring of living fire. Odd. I have no memory of this tunnel, or the TzKot-Zo.
TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - This is... Sacred lava, from the Kiln! The TokHaar awaken Defend yourself!

TokHaar-Hok - My little Ga'al. You disappoint us. You should not have drawn attention to the lava conduit. We sealed this chamber for good reason. If it is a fight you want, then a fight you shall have. We have longed for an opportunity to test this great human's mettle. Let battle commence.
Stun Abilities- - Kick Basic (Basic) - Back hand (Basic)
Tips: Use melee prayer the whole fight & Kill all Rangers!
Chat Log:
TokHaar-Hok - You have... Bested us, human. You are truly a worthy adversary.
Ga'al-Xox - The only way the TzHaar can understand the suffering of Tokkul is to experience it for themselves. I know what must be done. Contact TzHaar-Mej-Jeh, and convince him to meet us in the Elder Kiln.
TokHaar-Hok - We shall withdraw to the Elder Kiln...
Ga'al-Xox - You did it! You defeated TokHaar-Hok The sacred lava is once again flowing from the Kiln. Soon, the city will be bathed in scorching heat. The Tokkul... We must dissolve the Tokkul in the sacred lava. It's the only way to release the suffering dead from their torment.
Gal'al-Xox - TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Yt'Haar! Nurturing heat is pouring into TzHaar City. TzHaar-Mej at birthing pool report that eggs are growing into healthy TzHaar. Is this your doing?
You inform TzHaar-Mej-Jeh about your glorious triumph over the TokHaar, and how they are responsible for cooling the city and bringing about the creation of Ga'al.
TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - TzHaar owe you great debt. What of Ga'al-Xox? Is he ready to answer for his crimes?
You - Ga'al-Xox asked me to bring you to the Elder Kiln. He wishes to make amends. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Very well. I shall meet you in the Elder Kiln. I have many questions for TokHaar-Hok.
Ending Quest Chat Log:
TokHaar-Hok - We learned much of your technique. We are eager to learn more. Ta'al-Xox - Can you believe this? After all that we have endured, TzHaar-Mej-Jeh still wishes to reforge the Ga'al as hosts for their dead TzHaar. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Of course. The Ga'al are now a precious, finite resource. We promise to no longer sentence the Ga'al to death in the Fight Pit. They are too valuable as living vessels for our lost ancestors. When the last Ga'al has been put to profitable use, the TzHaar can put this worrisome time of change behind us. Ga'al-Xox - Why must the TzHaar be so stubborn? You will not listen to me. You will not listen to TzHaar-Ket-Yit'tal, whose memories of the crushing torment of Tokkul live inside me. Will you listen to TzHaar-Mej-Ak? Will you listen to one of your own caste, the TzHaar that died by my hand. TokHaar-Hok -I shall forge this Ga'al a second time, on one condition... My minions shall evermore engage in glorious battle with this human, this surface dweller who vanquished us in combat. We shall learn her technique, hone our skills, and probe her defences for weakness. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - JalYt, do you agree to these terms?
1. I can't wait to battle the TokHaar. 2. As long as it's not a waste of my time. 3. I will consider it.
TokHaar-Hok - Excellent. There is much the TokHaar can learn from you, human. Now, TzHaar, witness the fate that awaits those that live outside the Elder Kiln.
TzHaar-Mej-Ak - Release! I am... free... No... How can this be? I am in the body of a... Ga'all! You speak - Ga'al-Xox? Are you still... What happened? Ga'al-Xox - I'm here. Barely. The pain... TzHaar-Mej-Ak has... suffered so... TzHaar-Mej-Ak - Please... Release me from this torment let me die. I beg you. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - TzHaar-Mej-Ak... Does the Ga'al speak the truth? Are you back from the dead? or are you only a memory? TzHaar-Mej-Ak - I never died! All of us... every TzHaar who has ever lived... we suffer in agony. The pressure... the pain... Release us... Dissolve our remains in the sacred lava. we call out to you from our obsidian prisons, but you cannot hear our silent screams. Ga'al-Xox - Are you... ...finally... ...Convinced? TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Yes! I shall do as you ask. We cannot use the trapped souls of our dead as currency. Though change does not come easily to the TzHaar, for the sake of our ancestors we must forge a different path. TzHaar-Mej-Ak -Thank... you... TokHaar-Hok - You have proven your point, my little Ga'al. You have suffered a long time for your ideals. Do you wish to return to the sacred lava? we can finally... end your suffering. Ga'al-Xox - But what of the... TzHaar-Mej-Ak - Let me die...please... Ga'al-Xox -Hush. But what will become of the Ga'al? I long for relief but... My work is... not yet finished. TokHaar-Hok - Bah! Give me one reason that the Ga'al are worth saving.
1. They can learn. 2. They can invent. 3. They can fight. 4. They can travel.
You Speak - The Ga'al are capable of learning new skills. Ga'al-Xox taught himself to speak by watching and learning. Think what more the Ga'al could learn in a nurturing environment.
TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - I solemnly vow to you - to both of you - that the TzHaar shall take responsibility for nurturing and training the Ga'al. We shall teach them the TzHaar language. We shall teach them our ways; of combat; of honour. The Ga'al will forge their own destinies.
Ga'al-Xox - Thank you, TzHaar-Mej-Jeh. I am ready... to die. Before I... go... I want to thank you, human. You nurtured me where others thought me worthless. You fought for my kind, and I have learned much from you. The TzHaar have much to learn from humanity... of compassion, of respect. There are other ways to vanquish an enemy than by blade, mace or staff. Whatever awaits us in the next life, beyond the confines of stone or flesh, I hope that we shall meet again. Goodbye, my friend.
TzHaar-Mej-Jeh - Fellow TzHaar... We have gathered this day to celebrate... ...to honour deeds of this JalYt. This human, this outsider has fought back against those that would threaten TzHaar society. She has protected TzHaar with unceasing courage and boundless ingenuity. For long time, TzHaar have suffered terrible change. Our city has cooled, our precious eggs have died, or born different. TzHaar did not know why. TzHaar did not act until it was too late. JalYt took action JaYt discovered threat at heart of our colcano home. Discovered old TzHaar, the TokHaar, that lived in sacred Kiln. Jal'Yt discovered plot to destroy TzHaar. JalYt discovered cause of birth of Ga'al. JalYt fought the TokHaar back to their Kiln. JalYt restored heat to TzHaar City. Jal'Yt has proven her far more than mere JalYt. Henceforth, This JalYt is not outsider. She shall henceforth be knewn as TzHaar-(USER NAME HERE) Treat her as you would any TzHeer, Honour this great warrior, defender of TzHeer.

Subject: Re: The Brink of Extinction Sat Dec 08, 2012 10:39 pm
Why didn't you add TokTzKet-Dill as a requirement? It still features the TzHaar and, after all, this is a conclusion to TzHaar.
Mod Stu: The Brink of Extinction is a direct sequel to the Elder Kiln, which didn't require TokTz-Ket-Dill. It concludes the dilemma with the Ga'al and the involvement of the TokHaar in that plot-line - the events of TokTz-Ket-Dill have little to do with either quest.
Who are the TokHaar "Masters" and "Creators"?
Mod Stu: I'm not sure I'm allowed to say, but TokHaar-Hok makes it pretty explicit... more so than he used to, particularly if you've delved into the secondary lore of this quest. Go have a chat with TokHaar-Hok in the Fight Kiln after the quest to learn more.
Why do the TokHaar have purple running through them? What is the purple?
Mod Stu: Presumably their masters like the colour purple. Certainly it's my favourite colour!
The ancient power of the Elder Kiln courses through the TokHaar, granting them immortality, while the TzHaar have forged a different path and reproduce by passing on a fragment of themselves to the next generation. Over the centuries, the two races have diverged in appearance.
What is the story behind the ancient knife we pick up?
Mod Stu: I assume you mean the obsidian weapons used in the puzzles? They're TzHaar weapons featured in the security system constructed by the ancient TzHaar.
Incidentally, the puzzles were easy by design (and it took considerable self-restraint to keep them that way, as I love puzzles!). The intended target audience of the quest was players that enjoy combat and serious lore...the puzzles were there for variety between combat encounters, but were quick to complete to maintain momentum. In retrospect, I should've made harder puzzles to be better in keeping with the Grandmaster label.
Will we ever be able to see what the final bookshelf says?
Mod Stu: Perhaps you already can.
Will the TzHaar find relatives in the Eastern lands?
Mod Stu: Interesting question! According to TokHaar-Hok, the TokHaar were created to shape the mountains of Gielinor, and then returned to the font of their creation. This implies they did all the work themselves, and no stragglers were left behind...but perhaps TokHaar-Hok is not revealing the whole story.
Are there any plans to add Ga'al in the surface world? They are the only ones who can leave the volcano and they can learn from humans.
Mod Stu: I'd hoped to make Ga'al appear in the surface world after the quest, but the design team preferred to keep TzHaar content self-contained as much as possible. The evolution of the Ga'al is certainly something I'd like to explore further. The TzHaar have begun to change, but it does not come easily to them.
Would it be possible to be able to auto-pick up the Obsidian Shards from the Cauldron, as they're sometimes hard to see?
Mod Stu: That's one of many improvements I'm investigating next in post-release fixes.
Will we ever be able to get a pet Ga'al? Obsidian Golem isn't quite the same and they're quite cute.
Mod Stu: I'd like the Ga'al to be perceived as more than pets! Perhaps it is something that could be featured in a future Summoning rework, though.
Will all the characters in the city become fully voice acted? This includes the previous quests in the series too.
Mod Stu: I really hope so! We answered a lot of questions about how the TzHaar sound and pronounce their language, so additional VO should go smoothly, after revising existing dialogue to be VO-compatible. As Mod Mark noted in the lore livestream, the TzHaar City is an ideal self-contained area for the full VO treatment.
Unfortunately, the project was nearly ready for QA when the livestream occurred, and in fact re-scheduled to release a week earlier than originally planned. With a lot of extra hours we managed to record and squeeze in voice for this quest, plugging in audio right up to the day of release - I would love to at least return to the Elder Kiln and voice all the dialogue shared by the principle cast. I can't get enough of TokHaar-Hok's voice.
Why do we still use Tokkul after the quest as currency? At the conclusion, they agreed to stop using them.
Mod Stu: After the quest, a lot of TzHaar City NPCs have new dialogue in response to the changes wrought by your actions in The Brink of Extinction. I recommend exploring the City, as there's another layer of the story waiting to be discovered. For example:
TzHaar-Mej-Jal: "TzHaar do not need currency. Each TzHaar work hard, and does their duty according to their caste. TzHaar ensure they have food and shelter, and all needs are met. JalYt come to TzHaar City, with heads full of gold and wealth and greed. Gold no use to TzHaar. Soft and easily broken, like JalYt. JalYt need rare token to trade. TokKul is memories of dead TzHaar. Trapped. Precious. TokKul is only rare token TzHaar have. Until TzHaar find new token, or JalYt have less greed, must trade in TokKul."
TzHaar-Mej-Jeh: "Spending TokKul in shops means we have more TokKul to release into the sacred lava. We will break down your TokKul, and the souls of our ancestors shall be at peace."
Will we ever be able to see the rest of TzHaar City, or is this the end of TzHaar development?
Mod Stu: Mod Osborne requested that we make it explicitly clear in this quest that we have no intention of unlocking the inner city of the TzHaar.
Why did you choose to make the armour kind of useless when using it outside of the city? No one really trains in the city so it is going to be un-used armour. Could you not add a buff?
Mod Stu: The core aims for the project recommended degrading obsidian armour as one of the rewards. Introducing more high-level armour, however, conflicted with plans to normalise the upper armour tiers through a Mining/Smithing rework that was being designed at the time, and introduce high-level armour in future releases, such as Player Owned Ports. To balance these concerns, we settled on making this reward a specialist armour, which provides significant damage reduction against TzHaar City NPCs, but wouldn't devalue similar armour in other environments.
Why didn't we receive Smithing XP for the reward, yet the quest requiring 80 to complete?
Mod Stu: Traditionally, Mining and Smithing are linked, but the source of obsidian armour is accessed through combat, so I wanted to maintain that link through the skill requirements. Also, so far each TzHaar quest has featured Mining XP as a reward. Earlier versions of the quest involved more mining actions to better justify the Mining XP - in the final version, you do a negligible amount of mining and smithing, but we maintained the Mining XP reward to maintain that link. The obsidian armour is unlocked at regular increments between 80 and 90 Smithing to serve as a smithing reward.
